Tre dei precedenti album in studio di Fantastic Negrito hanno vinto il Grammy Award per il miglior album di blues contemporaneo, tra cui The Last Days of Oakland, Please Don't Be Dead e Have You Lost Your Mind Yet? È stato in tournée con artisti diversi come Sturgill
Simpson e Chris Cornell, ha collaborato con Sting e E-40, ha lanciato la propria etichetta Storefront Records e ha fondato la Revolution Plantation, una fattoria urbana finalizzata all'educazione e all'emancipazione dei giovani.
