Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace è stato registrato a giugno 2020, mentre il Regno Unito usciva lentamente dal lockdown ed è stato concepito come una risposta alla reclusione e all'isolamento dei mesi precedenti. Inizialmente era stato immaginato come un evento unicamente web per poi diventare un film e un doppio album in vinile e CD con tutte le 22 canzoni del film originale. In Idiot Prayer , Cave suona le sue canzoni da solo al pianoforte in una forma minimalista proposta di rado, dalle prime formazioni con Bad Seeds e Grinderman fino al più recente album di Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Ghosteen.
