Songs For Judy è il primo album che esce per letichetta di Neil Young Shakey Pictures Records, distribuita dalla storica Reprise Records. È una raccolta di brani acustici live registrati durante il tour da solista del 1976 e contiene 22 canzoni prese da varie città. Per la maggior parte di quellanno, Young era stato in tour con i Crazy Horse, ma ha voluto tenere un po di tempo solo per sé e suonare da solo brani che avrebbero visto la luce discografica solo molto tempo dopo. Oltre a queste gemme, ce nè anche una che viene pubblicata ora per la prima volta in assoluto: No one seems to know. Le versioni grezze delle tracce su Song For Judy riflettono un artista puro e senza paura di permettere alle canzoni di respirare e di trovare la propria forma quando vengono eseguite in un assolo. Le canzoni scritte in quell'epoca sarebbe state messe a punto solo molto dopo. "White Line" e "Give Me Strength", ad esempio, hanno visto la luce solo nel 1990 e nel 2017. È anche affascinante sentire Young rivisitare gemme antiche come Mr. Soul ('67), Here We Are In The Years('68) e The Losing End('69) da alcune delle sue prime registrazioni da solista che rimangono senza tempo come sempre.
