Formatisi a Chicago, IL, nel 1988, i The Smashing Pumpkins hanno pubblicato il loro album di debutto Gish nel 1991, ottenendo un successo clamoroso nel 1993 con il 4 volte platino Siamese Dream e il 10 volte platino Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness del 1995. Dopo luscita di Adore, Machina/The Machine of God e Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music, nel 2000 la line up originaria del gruppo si è separata. Il cantante/chitarrista Billy Corgan ha riformato la band nel 2005, selezionando vari collaboratori per realizzare lavori come Zeitgeist, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Oceania e Monuments to an Elegy. Nel giugno 2018, i The Smashing Pumpkins hanno presentato un nuovo singolo, Solara, iniziando così il loro monumentale Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour. La traccia è il primo materiale originale in oltre 18 anni ed è suonata dai membri fondatori Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin assieme al chitarrista Jeff Schroeder, e offre un primo assaggio del nuovo sound della band riformata forgiato insieme al leggendario produttore Rick Rubin. La band annuncia quindi il suo 10° album in studio, Shiny and Oh So Bright, vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun, in concomitanza con il secondo singolo Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts).
